Snake rings were extremely popular in Victorian/Edwardian jewellery as snakes were symbolizing protection and eternal love.

Also historically, serpents and snakes have gained several allegorical meanings because of religious beliefs, cultural traditions and natural characteristics. They are indeed symbols of rebirth, transformation, immortality, and healing. In some cultures they even represented sex, fertility, secrets and rain.
