Antique Georgian Fine Essex Crystal Pendant Memento Mori with Braided Hair

An absolutely superb and very detailed gem. One of the best Essex crystal memento mori jewels we have seen.

An extremely rare and beautifully colored reversed intaglio depicting a very detailed goldfinch perched on a branch.
Amongst all flora and fauna usually depicted in such crystals, I have never seen a goldfinch Essex Crystal before. It must have had a special meaning to the creator and gifter of this rare gem.

It weighs a really healthy 8.3 grams. It is approx 2.5cm in diameter and the domed crystal is 1.5cm in height. The crystal is in beautiful condition without any cracks or chips - very smooth and tactile with a beautiful high dome shape that looks spectacular.

The glass at the rear holds a lock of hair/plaited section of hair. There is an embroidered monogram on the rear. The bird is intricately detailed in gold, black and red.
It comes with a large hanging loop so that it can be used as a pendant. A very attractive item.

It is in excellent condition as can be seen from the photographs. Amazingly preserved piece, no damage or wear whatsoever.
