A very rare authentic 18th century neck jewel set with untreated Burma rubies! This absolutely magnificent and precious antique Georgian era cross necklace is made in highly collectible Rococo style. Rococo is famous for its curvy lines, lace-like metal work and bow ornaments. Extremely feminine, Rococo jewelry of the 18th century is highly collectible amongst antique jewelry enthusiasts.
This cross is set with 7 chunky Burma rubies. Untreated, they have a vivid pink color and are set on foil (ancient technology whic were used to give the precious stones lustre an extra depth). In addition, the body of the pendant is accented with 13 rose and simplified cut diamonds.
Made of solid 15k yellow gold and solid silver this cross and bow neck piece is dating back to the late 1700's / early 1800's (late Georgian or early Victorian era). This beautiful gem comes from the Austro-Hungarian empire of that time. Lace-like hand made gold ornament looks extremely delicate and ethereal. The corss measures 6.5 x 3.3 cm or 2.56 x 1.3 inch.
Back in the 18th century, the precious stones were imported from the far-away lands and were not treated to enhance the color as the technology was not yet invented. Emeralds were brought from Colombia, diamonds mainly from India and rubies - from Burma, with whom Europe had a trading relationship back than.
A classic example of assymetric Rococo style of the 18th century, this amazing neck ornament is a real museum-worthy treasure! We hope it finds its new home soon!
