Antique 18th Century Diamond Poissardes Earrings
An absolutely beautifully preserved 18th century pair of "poissarde" earrings! Made from solid 14k gold and silver, these nearly 300 years old earrings are set with 14 rose cut diamonds. Definitely an eye-catcher, such antique earrings are highly collectible nowadays! Hunted for by the antiques collectors, they can be successfully worn even with a modern dress.
Over 2 CENTURIES after their creation these stunners look very much adequate even nowadays! A gorgeous elongated profile with a gentle geometric pattern is absolutely beautiful! Each earring is set with 7 roe cut diamonds totaling about 1.6 CT per pair.
"Such earrings were popular in France, Germany and Italy in late 18th - early 19th century. They were called "poissarde" for French "Fishwife". They were first worn by fishwives selling their wares in Les Halles market in Paris (circa year 1795), these were hoop earrings with a back-to-front fitting that resembled a fish hook. They were made of lightweight gold , either plain, or stamped of filigree, and were sometimes embellished with modest gemstone or enamel-work" - Source "Georgian Jewellery" by Ginny Redlington Dawes and Olivia Collings.

This earrings are hallmarked with an insect stamp. They acid-test as high-karat gold of 14k. The earrings are in a perfect antique condition with a minor wear to the diamonds (according to their age).
