Very peculiar and stunning recent conversion of a Victorian era enameled pin into a ring.

From what we know the beautiful enamel portrait might have represented the commissioning lady, crowned with natural seed pearls, a tiny ruby and a sapphire.

Little we know about the story of this ring, but on the back setting it is clearly visible the shape of a scissor that in old times was believed to protect against evil eye and so it was frequently worn underneath clothes.

In this pin the commissioner probably asked to add this specific shape, in order to wear this talisman as a protection.

The ring conversion has been made in total respect of the original pin and the Victorian style, featuring a simple 14ct gold band.

This ring would be a great addition to your Victorian rings collection and a perfect talisman to protect you and who you love against the Evil Eye.

Style: Victorian
Period: ca. 1880 (unmarked, presumed by style)
About enameling technique: Enamel on gold was very appreciated during Victorian Era in European Jewellery. Enamel is the colorful result of fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 degrees Celsius. The powder melts and flows and hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating on metal, glass or ceramic.
Country of origin: Although it does not carry any legible control marks we believe this to be of Italian origin. Pin coming from a private collection.

Condition: Excellent condition. Enamel is perfectly conserved and all original stones are in place.
