This beautiful antique Victorian locket is made of glossy onyx plate, decorated with a delicate hand-made monogram "LC" or "CL". The body of the locket is preserved amazingly with no surface wear and the bale and initials are made of solid 14ct yellow gold.
Onyx is often used in Victorian period for the art of mourning jewelry (only black jewels were allowed to be worn in mourning period) is also known for the energy of strong support, stamina, and determination to help one's persevere. This particular locket has a glass window on its reverse side carrying blond hair as a sentiment for a dear relative or friend. The hair can be removed upon request if needed.
The locket is in a superb condition. The rear compartment has to cracks with an original glass window. Reverse has two small chips along the glass window, they are visible and do not interfere with the functionality of the rear window.
